Product Description
Crosby HG-228 Jaw & Jaw Turnbuckles
The Crosby HG-228 Jaw & Jaw Turnbuckles are designed for maximum security in heavy-duty inline tensioning. With forged jaw ends on both sides, they provide a positive clevis-to-clevis connection for structural, rigging, or lifting applications. Each unit is forged, heat-treated, and hot-dip galvanized for strength, fatigue resistance, and long-term corrosion protection.
Key Features
- Forged and heat-treated steel components: end fittings quenched and tempered or normalized; body normalized.
- Jaw ends feature bolt-and-nut connections (1/4"–5/8") or pin-and-cotter assemblies (3/4"–2-3/4").
- Modified UNJ thread on end fittings for improved fatigue properties; body uses UNC threads.
- Hot-dip galvanized finish for long-term corrosion protection.
- Rated for straight or in-line pull only.
- Fatigue rated to 20,000 cycles at 1.5× Working Load Limit.
- Lock nuts available for all sizes.
- 5:1 design factor; proof load is 2.5× WLL.
- Conforms to ASME B30.26, ASTM F-1145, and Federal Specification FF-T-791b Type 1 Form 1 Class 7.
Size & Capacity Range
- Available sizes: 5/16" x 4-1/2" through 2-3/4" x 24"
- Working Load Limit (WLL): 800 lbs to 75,000 lbs
Usage & Safety Information
- Turnbuckles are intended for straight, in-line tensioning only. Side loading can result in deformation or failure.
- When used in lifting or load-bearing assemblies, threads must be fully engaged and fittings secured to prevent unthreading under vibration or movement.
- Use lock nuts, safety wire, or equivalent devices to maintain proper adjustment.
Typical Applications
- Heavy-duty tensioning and load alignment
- Structural and marine rigging systems
- Industrial assemblies requiring double-jaw connections
