Galvanized Aircraft Cable (GAC) – Versatile Wire Rope for General Rigging
Often referred to as Galvanized Aircraft Cable (GAC), this wire rope is not aircraft-grade or aircraft-rated, but it is widely used for commercial winch lines, zip lines, lashing, and general-purpose rigging applications. Constructed primarily in 7x19 for flexibility, with 7x7 available in select sizes for stiffer applications, this cable provides a balance of strength and adaptability. Made from galvanized steel, it offers enhanced corrosion resistance for outdoor and marine environments. Available in sizes from 3/64" to 7/16", with a breaking strength range of 270 to 19,500 lbs, GAC is a lightweight yet durable solution for non-lifting applications. Manufactured in accordance with ASTM A 1023, this cable is not certified to MIL-W-83420 as it does not undergo all required testing, including the cycle test for the federal government’s QPL certification, though all other testing and certifications are valid, and mill test certificates are available upon request.
