General Purpose Rope – 3-Strand, Solid Braid, and Utility Lines
Our general purpose rope category includes a wide range of utility ropes designed for everyday use—not climbing or heavy-duty rigging. These ropes are ideal for handlines, taglines, tie-downs, hoisting, and general shop or field tasks. We carry trusted options like polypropylene, polydacron, manila, and trucker rope, as well as specialized constructions such as nylon solid braid and Blue Steel from Continental Western. Most options are 3-strand, though select 12-strand options are also available.
Common Rope Types
- Polypropylene: Lightweight and floats; commonly used for general tie-downs and temporary handlines.
- Polydacron (PolyDac): A blend of polypropylene and polyester for better abrasion resistance and reduced stretch.
- Manila: Traditional natural fiber rope often used for aesthetic or low-load utility applications.
- Trucker Rope: Black rope with orange tracer; popular for tarping and general cargo control.
- Nylon Solid Braid: Smooth-running rope ideal for pulleys and flagpoles due to its consistent diameter and low stretch under moderate loads.
Blue Steel – Continental Western
Blue Steel rope from Continental Western is available in both 3-strand and 12-strand constructions. It offers higher strength than polypropylene while maintaining a lightweight feel. This makes it a popular choice for handlines and general utility rigging where weight and handling are key factors.
- 3-strand Blue Steel: Affordable and easy to splice
- 12-strand Blue Steel: Higher strength and smoother handling for more demanding utility use
These general purpose ropes are versatile, easy to handle, and available in a variety of diameters and lengths. They are not rated for climbing or certified rigging applications but are ideal for day-to-day utility use in the shop, truck, or field.
