The Notch Port-A-Wrap Large Stainless Steel is a lightweight, compact rope friction device designed to lower heavy loads in a controlled manner. Originally developed by arborists Scott Prophett and Norm Hall in the early 1990s, the Port-A-Wrap has become one of the most dependable and effective tools for professional rigging operations.

Before the Port-A-Wrap, ground workers had to wrap the lowering line around a nearby tree, often damaging the tree's bark due to surface friction. Now, with the Port-A-Wrap, you can quickly lock and load for multiple lowering tasks without harming the tree. The Port-A-Wrap delivers consistent, predictable friction to the rope—allowing the groundsman to focus on load dynamics without worrying about variable tree surfaces.

Built from seamless, high-strength stainless steel tubing, the Notch Port-A-Wrap offers exceptional corrosion resistance, making it ideal even for coastal and high-humidity environments. Edges are chamfered for smoother rope handling, and a special tree-protecting cap prevents gouging or damaging the trunk during use. The strength-to-weight ratio is maximized, and strength and rope capacity are permanently labeled directly on the device for easy reference.

Once considered the standard approach and now favored for its minimalist design, the Whoopie sling allows fast, adjustable mounting without bulky knots or extra hardware.
