Product Description

Ultra-Safe US-5038E Economy Cable Grab

The Ultra-Safe US-5038E is a cam-actuated fall arrester designed for smooth movement and secure fall protection along a vertical 3/8" (10mm) wire rope lifeline. It automatically follows the user during ascent or descent and locks immediately in the event of a fall. Compatible with galvanized or stainless steel wire rope, this economical cable grab meets ANSI Z359.1 and OSHA 1926.502/1910.140 standards.

  • Connects to the chest (sternal) D-ring of harness using an ANSI/OSHA approved carabiner
  • Compact and economical design with smooth trailing mobility

Compatibility & Use

  • For use with 3/8" (10mm) diameter wire rope only
  • Minimum cable breaking strength: 6,000 lbs (27 kN)
  • Use only with ANSI/OSHA approved carabiners having a round cross-section (3/8") and total length not exceeding 9" (200mm)
  • Must be used with a shock-absorbing lanyard or on a lifeline with integrated shock absorber

Installation Instructions

  1. Hold the cable grab with the arrow pointing upward
  2. Press the protruding lever upward and squeeze the housing
  3. Rotate the unit 90° clockwise and then 90° counterclockwise to thread the cable between the cams and body
  4. Release the lever to engage the cams
  5. Insert the carabiner into the eye at the end of the lever to lock the device in place
  6. Pull downward briskly to ensure the grab engages the cable properly

Inspection & Maintenance

  • Inspect before each use—remove from cable and check for dirt, damage, wear, and free movement of the mechanism
  • Ensure there is noticeable spring resistance and that the unit locks when released on the cable
  • Clean with mild soap and water; dry with a clean cloth or low-pressure air
  • Lubricate pivot area with light oil (e.g., WD-40); avoid getting oil on cams or cable contact surfaces
  • Do not use if the condition of the unit is in doubt
