Product Description
Crosby IP10 & IP10J Vertical Lifting Clamps — Safe, Proven Plate Clamps for Vertical Lifting and Handling
The Crosby IP10 Vertical Lifting Clamp is designed for the safe and efficient lifting, turning, moving, and vertical transfer of steel plates, sheets, and fabrications. Like the IPU10 model, the IP10 series allows for full 180-degree rotation, enabling materials to be lifted from horizontal to vertical and back again when needed.
The key difference is that the IP10 series uses a standard straight lifting eye (not hinged or universal), making it ideal for single-point picks or use with spreader beams and multiple vertical drop lines. This makes the IP10 a go-to choice when a rigid, non-swiveling lift point is required. For jobs where side loading is not necessary, the IP10 offers the same Crosby quality in a more traditional lifting clamp design.
Available in capacities from 0.5 to 30 tons and jaw openings ranging from 0 inches to 6.13 inches, the IP10 series handles a wide range of material sizes. Clamp weights range from approximately 3.97 lbs to 324 lbs, depending on size and capacity.
Standard IP10 vs. IP10J Range — Jaw Opening Options
The Crosby IP10 series is available in two versions to accommodate different plate thicknesses:
- Standard IP10 models feature jaw openings from 0 inches to 3.13 inches (0 – 80 mm), suitable for most standard plate handling.
- IP10J models provide expanded jaw openings from 0.63 inches to 6.13 inches (16 – 156 mm), for thicker plates and fabrications.
Both versions share the same design, capacity ranges, and safety certifications — the only difference is in the jaw size to accommodate thicker materials.
Key Features of Crosby IP10 and IP10J Vertical Lifting Clamps:
- Wide capacity range from 0.5 ton to 30 tons for light to heavy-duty lifting needs.
- Jaw openings up to 6.13 inches with IP10J models for larger plate handling.
- Standard straight lifting eye designed for single-point lifting or spreader beams — no side loading or hinged movement.
- Full 180-degree rotation for safe vertical lifting, turning, and repositioning of plates.
- Lock open and lock closed latch system for pre-tensioning on material and controlled release.
- Special hook-up points on 12-ton and larger clamps for easier placement in horizontal position.
- Welded alloy steel body for high strength and compact design, with forged alloy components where additional durability is needed.
- Individually proof tested to 2x Working Load Limit (WLL), with test certificates provided.
- Permanently stamped with Crosby IP name, WLL, jaw opening, serial number, and proof test date for complete traceability.
- Compatible with materials up to 363 HV10 (345 HB) surface hardness, depending on load applied.
- Designed and tested to meet or exceed EN 13155 and ASME B30.20 standards.
- Maintenance and repair kits available to keep clamps in safe working condition.
Applications:
- Lifting and vertical transfer of steel plates and sheets.
- Turning and rotating steel plates and fabricated components during production or assembly.
- Handling structural steel and fabricated sections in construction and industrial environments.
- Ideal for **single-point lifting or use with spreader beams** where side-loading the clamp is not required.
Surface Hardness and Minimum Load Guidelines:
The surface hardness of the material and minimum percentage of WLL applied are critical for safe clamp performance:
- For materials up to 363 HV10 (345 HB):
- The 0.5-ton (0.5t) model may be used with a minimum load of 5% of its WLL.
- All larger IP10 and IP10J models (above 0.5t) require a minimum load of 10% of WLL when handling materials of this hardness.
- For materials up to 279 HV10 (softer materials):
- All IP10 and IP10J models may be used with a minimum load of 5% of WLL.
Safety and Usage Reminders:
- Do not exceed rated Working Load Limit (WLL).
- Not for lifting or suspending personnel — NOT man-rated.
- Ensure material surface hardness is within specified limits (363 HV10 or 279 HV10 depending on load applied).
- Inspect clamps and gripping surfaces before each use for signs of wear, damage, or deformation.
- Match the clamp size and WLL to the specific material and application.
- Always fully engage the locking mechanism before lifting and use latch for safe load release.
- Keep all clamp parts clean and properly lubricated for optimal performance.
- Follow minimum load guidelines to ensure proper jaw engagement.
