Product Description
Standard Cant Hook – Ideal for Sawmill and Yard Use
The Standard Cant Hook from Peavey Manufacturing Co. is the trusted tool for rolling, turning, and positioning squared logs—also known as "cants"—in sawmills and lumberyards. Unlike a peavey, the cant hook does not feature a pointed end. Instead, it’s designed with a blunt tip and toothed hook that grips square edges securely without damaging the wood.
Available Handle Lengths
- 48-inch
- 54-inch
- 60-inch
Key Features
- Blunt End: No spike—safer and more appropriate for use on finished or squared wood in controlled environments like mills or yards.
- Forged Steel Hook with Teeth: Provides a secure bite on the right-angle corners of cants during rolling and positioning.
- 2-3/8" Hickory Handle: Kiln-dried hardwood offers excellent durability and shock absorption for long-lasting performance.
- Made in the USA: Manufactured by Peavey Mfg. Co., the original name in log handling tools since 1857.
When to Use a Cant Hook vs. a Peavey
Cant hooks are purpose-built for handling squared-off logs and timbers—especially on sawmill carriages or in stacking yards. Their blunt end eliminates the risk of puncturing finished wood, while the shorter handle allows for closer, more precise control in tight spaces.
A peavey, by contrast, includes a pointed spike and longer handle, making it better suited for outdoor logging, loading, and prying operations in the field. The two tools serve different but complementary roles in timber work.
Recommended Applications
- Rolling and flipping squared logs (cants) on mill equipment
- Positioning timber in lumberyards and storage areas
- Safe handling of finished or processed wood products
- Firewood and log yard use where blunt ends are preferred
Built for Professionals
Whether you're processing lumber in a sawmill or managing cants in a storage yard, the Standard Cant Hook offers the control and reliability you need. Choose your preferred handle length and trust in a legacy tool that’s been a cornerstone of the timber industry for over 160 years.
