Product Description

Lewis LSG-O Snake Grips – Open-Ended, Heavy-Duty Mesh for Cable Splicing

The Lewis LSG-O Snake Grip is a heavy-duty, open-ended mesh grip designed for pulling new cable using an existing line. This reusable design is ideal for splice-style pulling jobs where the old and new cables meet mid-line. Made from galvanized steel mesh, the grip tightens under tension and maintains a strong, secure hold across a wide range of cable sizes. The open-ended configuration allows both cable ends to be inserted from opposite sides, then secured together at the center with banding and tape (sold separately) for a compact, streamlined pull. No special tools are required, making LSG-O grips a fast and efficient solution for cable replacement in the field.

Each grip is constructed with either a double or triple weave and is rated for high working and tensile loads. These grips are commonly used by utility contractors, electrical installers, and telecom crews performing underground, overhead, or conduit-based pulls where precision and strength are critical.

Available Sizes and Ratings

  • LSG-O 1/4″ – 1/2″ (24″ mesh, double weave): Rated for 1,200 lb working load and 4,400 lb UTS
  • LSG-O 1/2″ – 1″ (24″ mesh, double weave): Rated for 2,500 lb working load and 7,500 lb UTS
  • LSG-O 1″ – 1-1/2″ (48″ mesh, triple weave): Longer grip length with same 3,500 lb working load and 10,000 lb UTS—ideal for large-diameter cable runs

Applications and Functionality

LSG-O Snake Grips are used in a wide range of industrial and utility settings where existing cable lines need to be replaced or extended. The open-ended design makes them especially useful when both ends of the cable are accessible, or when working with short splicing clearances in manholes, vaults, or tight pull boxes. Each grip is designed to conform to the cable under load, minimizing snagging during pulls and ensuring reliable contact throughout the process.

Technicians appreciate the simplicity and durability of LSG-O grips—just insert each cable, align the mesh at the center, and secure both ends with banding and tape. The grip can then be reused on future jobs, saving both time and material. These grips are made in the USA and offer field-proven performance in tough environments.

Note: Always select the correct grip based on cable diameter, length, and load requirements. Banding and tape are required and sold separately. Not intended for overhead lifting.
