MASTER LINKS
Forged and Welded Alloy Master Links
Master Links are a key component of multi-legged wire rope bridle slings, stingers, alloy chain slings, and web sling bridles. Depending on your application master links can be purchased as standalone rigging accessories, or they can be ordered as a component part of a larger assembly or bridle. Master links are available in Alloy, Carbon and Cold-Tuff® materials. Carbon master links are generally going to have a lower price for the same size mater link than their alloy counterparts, but carbon master links will have a lower capacity than an alloy master link of the same size. Crosby’s Cold-Tuff® Alloy Master Links are quenched and tempered, individually proof tested, and certified to meet charpy impact testing. These master links are suitable for use at -50F and have a type approval of and certification in accordance with DNV 2.7-1 Offshore Containers. Depending on the use, they are available in standard oval, round ring, and pear shaped. It is important to make sure that the dimensions of the master link are compatible with the hook or other device they will be attached to. The mater link should rest securely on its attachment point. Any time that multiple slings are gathered into a master link as a collector for lifting their included angle should not be in excess of 120 degrees. The different shapes allow the rigger to organize the rigging more effectively based on their application. Master links can also include sub links to help the end user spread the rigging out more efficiently and avoid bunching. When sublinks are used as part of a master link assembly the WLL for the assembly is often the WLL of the sublink, and the WLL of the master link assembly may be based on a maximum included angle of 90 degrees. If needed master links can also be provided with engineered flats for use with coupler links. Master links are the only links suitable for chain slings.
All Crosby master links are Quenched and Tempered® to maximize the properties of the steel. The Crosby quenching and tempering process reduces the risk of catastrophic failure from brittleness and improves ductility, toughness, and impact and fatigue properties. Crosby master links are also available with their patented Quic-check® marks to help with inspection and aid in proper use in the field. The Crosby Group also has master links available that are Fatigue Rated® and Max Tough®. Fatigue Rated® signifies that those products have been proof tested to 1 ½ times their working load limit for 20,000 cycles, representing infinite product life. Max Tough® is a registered Crosby trademark that identifies products that are statistically verified to meet or exceed impact values of 31 ft-lbs. at -4°F based on a high confidence level. Crosby master links meet or exceed all requirements of ASME B30.26 including identification, ductility, design factor, proof load, and temperature. The Crosby Groups master links also meet other critical performance requirements including fatigue life, impact properties and material traceability, not addressed by ASME B30.26.
