Can you tell me what 1/4” and 3/8” cable you have that is certified for lifting humans? If you do have a product we would be interested 60,000 - 80,000 Lf annually. See more »

In short, no. This cable by itself is not rated for lifting or supporting humans. However, this same type of cable is commonly used by fall protection manufacturers in products like lanyards and anchors. The key difference is that in those cases, the cable is part of a fully engineered, tested, and certified system. While the raw cable has sufficient strength, it is not considered life-support-rated when purchased as loose, untested cable off the shelf.

Cable like this has a published Breaking Strength, but not an assigned Working Load Limit (WLL). There are many variables that come into play when determining the proper WLL, but generally, wire rope such as this has a 5:1 (1280 lbs) or 10:1 safety factor (640 lbs). It really depends on how the cable is being used, how the ends are terminated/secured, etc.

Well, since we don't know exactly what your application is, it's hard to say for sure, but the cable should wrap around 3" pipe yes, since it will run over 3" sheaves.
