Product Description

Swaged Line Experts!
We are one of the premier rigging shops in the U.S.A. when it comes to high-performance swaged lines. We sell a ton of swaged cable each year, so it's nothing new to us. We know where to get it, and where not to get it--and that's key! You don't want to go to the open market and buy swaged line from the lowest bidder, and we don't. A lot of our competition does, however. Suffice it to say, we know what we're doing when it comes to swaged wire rope.

Premium Zip Line Cable
We carry this line specifically for our large, commercial zip line customers. Those that build zip line parks with runs over 1,000 ft know that not just any cable will do. This cable is made to the same standards as our logging cable, and in fact, would hold up well in a logging environment. But most logging cable is greasy, whereas this line is galvanized. Zip liners don't want greasy cable and we get that. That's why this premium line gives you all the benefits of heavy-duty logging cable, with the benefit of being clean and easy to handle. If you've ever seen cable logging, then you know the line takes serious abuse. Swaged line excels in these environments because it doesn't abrade easily and has tremendous strength. For example, regular 3/8" wire rope has a published Breaking Strength of 15,100 lbs. This premium swaged line has a published Breaking Strength of 20,400 lbs, and the factory test certificates show an actual break of 21,200 lbs! That's over 25% stronger than regular cable! To have a smooth cable that is galvanized, tough and strong is the perfect blend of attributes for zip lining.

Custom Lengths Available
We bring this cable in on 5,000 ft reels, but longer pieces are available upon request. And now we stock all three sizes, including 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8"! If you're in need of a long run for a zip line park that is new and in the building phase, or is simply overhauling and looking to get the best line available, then give us a call. We know you'll be happy with our product and prices!

  • Swaged wire rope, compacted after being closed, higher linear density
  • Longer service life due to its smooth outer layer, less tendency to snag and abrade
  • Smooth surface is ideal for trolleys and repetitive zip line use
  • Galvanized, no greasy mess to deal with
  • Made from Extra Improved Plow Steel (EIPS) with an Independent Wire Rope Center (IWRC)
  • Mill certificates available upon request

Yes, when we make winch lines out of this cable, we do flemish the eye. Swaged wire rope is stiffer and a bit trickier to flemish properly, but it's doable.

This is bare cable sold by the linear foot. It is swaged evenly throughout to 3/8" diameter. If you wish to add swaged fittings to the end, please give us a call @ 800-442-7454 and we can talk through the options.

We are not aware of any cutters, whether hydraulic or handheld, that are rated for use with compacted cable. That's not to say that it can't be done, only that no manufacturers we work with rate their cutters for use with that type of cable. In house, we use a chop saw with an abrasive blade.

Unfortunately 3/8" is the smallest swaged available in regular or galvanized.

Bend radius is a tough one because it's largely based on the recommended sheave size, which is almost always larger than customers plan to use, or is practical in application. For example, for regular 6x19 7/16" cable, the recommended sheave size is 10.50" which yields a bend radius of 5.25". We don't have the same chart/data for swaged cable, but because it is stiffer, we would recommend going up one size from regular 6x19 3/8" (9" and 4.50" respectively). Doing so would put you right back at the 7/16" specs previously listed.

Would this swaged rope be usable with the 3.5~4" drum on a large vehicle recovery winch or is it too stiff? Thanks. See more »

Yes, this cable should work well in that application. Swaged wire rope is very common in logging, often running through pulleys and sheaves, dragging through the brush and commonly spooled on drums. The smooth shape of it actually helps it last longer on drums. It is stiff, stiffer than regular cable, and that's due to its linear density which translates into strength. It weighs more per foot than regular cable because there is more steel, thus a higher strength rating. The only other consideration would be Regular Swaged Wire Rope, which has a heavier lube that helps the cable flex a little better. But it is messier, and many people wish to avoid that. In that case, the galvanized super swaged cable is a good choice.

We can't say for certain, but there's a good chance. Swaged cable is stiffer because it's compacted. It is dense and weighs more per foot than regular cable, which is why it's stronger, but also why it may not spool well on a smaller drum.

We don't have the specs on that winch. Do you have any guidance from the winch manufacturer as to what cable to use?
